There is something about Queen Anne’s Lace that brings back memories of childhood hot summer days that seemed to stretch far longer than the length of the school break. This painting has a dreamy quality of wildflowers moving in the warm breeze. It’s a new addition and available at Windsor’s Courtyard in Merrickville, Ontario.

I’m trying to shift gears for spring and feel like it should be warm out already. So I forced the issue a little with this crazy tulip painting. It’s a little all over the place and has the energy of ” I can’t wait for spring”. This one is a warm up for me, a study to see what works and colour combinations. Okay, next one should be a little calmer.
Check out a little video!
This is a large canvas with a quiet palette but a lot of interest and subtle details. It’s rich in texture and glazing in the underpainting.
Below are three images of the same painting. I thought it was “done” a couple of times but something wasn’t sitting right with me and I gave it another go. Now it has the richness and depth that comes with layers, glazing, pouring and all of that good stuff.
It was a quiet day full of Charlie Brown snowflakes and I felt like painting what I saw out my window. Lovely hazy trees in the distance and soft snow falling. There is one tree that stands out from the rest, tall and twisted. It has it’s own thing happening and may not be conventionally beautiful but there is room for all.
A little sunshine can do a world of good. Looking forward to warmer breezes as the days stretch toward Spring. In the meantime I’m breaking out the cheerful palette and whimsical style. The sparse and hazy florals I like for their moody rain washed look. The painting directly above reminds me of groovy days of flower power.
Something different this week. I gathered up some of the most exquisite offering of nature that have made it through the winter intact, added some rusty old washers to a faded background on silver leaf. A little tribute to the Eagles with some stamping and scrabble pieces and viola- peaceful easy feeling. The whole thing is herd to gather with a very thick pouring of high gloss resin. I’ll take it to the ByWard Market today.
Bring some light and life into your home! My new little originals are unique art works with heavy hand made texture in the birch trees and delicate raised lines in the Queen Anne’s Lace. Available at Artisans in the ByWard Market, Ottawa.
