Merrickville Winter Makers Market had a wonderful beginning. Well done!

Autumn in Ontario paintings

Glorious Fall colours against that silvery blue sky. It’s the favourite time of year for many including myself. I’m trying to catch that dreamy quality above and the shock of colour below. It’s fleeting though so get out and enjoy!

Simply tranquil

This new painting brings back the serene feeling of standing under the aurora on a still evening and listening to see if you can actually hear the dancing lights in the sky.

Summer dreams in Queen Anne’s Lace

24 x 24 Acrylic and resin on gallery wood support

There is something about Queen Anne’s Lace that brings back memories of childhood hot summer days that seemed to stretch far longer than the length of the school break. This painting has a dreamy quality of wildflowers moving in the warm breeze. It’s a new addition and available at Windsor’s Courtyard in Merrickville, Ontario.

When the stars line up…

photo
I absolutely love it when the stars line up and I’m taken away by painting, music and watching it all melt together before my eyes. This work in progress has been a joy!

Rustic Winter Original

photo
Large tangled tree original painting    3 x 4 feet acrylic on canvas

This is a large canvas with a quiet palette but a lot of interest and subtle details. It’s rich in texture and glazing in the underpainting.

Snow in Merrickville

It was a quiet day full of Charlie Brown snowflakes and I felt like painting what I saw out my window. Lovely hazy trees in the distance and soft snow falling. There is one tree that stands out from the rest, tall and twisted. It has it’s own thing happening and may not be conventionally beautiful but there is room for all.

New 8 x 36 gallery canvas

Peaceful landscapes are arriving at Artisans in the ByWard Market this week in my new original acrylic paintings.

8 x 36   $225

This natural palette is one of my favourite. It’s calming with subtle drama. I love seeing the silver blue sky meeting the ocher field and the dark contrast of the trees. 8 x 36

Embracing Handmade

photoIt’s time to embrace handmade. I’m saying this to myself because I could use the lesson. I can get hung up on trying to create something picture perfect without drips, dust, specs or spots. In this business for creating art from start to finish, outside a lab or factory but a living breathing studio, it’s next to impossible. I’m slowly realizing it’s the imperfections that help give handmade objects life and signature thumb print. I don’t know why it’s taken so long for me to learn something I already know. When it comes to pottery I always choose the mug that’s different from the perfect pieces because i find it has the most personality. Okay, time to embrace!

Maple tree paintings

Here is a sweet little series of whimsical trees in full colour. The paintings are created with layers of acrylic and wax drippings. It’s a batik inspired process that produces surprises along the way, and who doesn’t like a surprise?

I’m so happy with the latest tulip paintings. I did a small series of three. There is something very serene and delicate going on in each original painting.

Aurora paintings

I walked out on the lake on New Year’s Eve to find myself standing under a vivid aurora. It made me feel very fortunate, peaceful and inspired. The painting began the next day and six small originals (6 x 6 inches) and have been completed displaying lots of light play and resined with a high gloss topcoat and delivered to Down to Earth Gallery and Visual Effects.
